It's time to end
racism in America
In 1975 desegregation came to Seattle. Children of color were assaulted by White parents who did not want their children to attend school with a mixed race student body. I attended those shools. As an adult, looking back I realize, we did not learn the truth about slavery, the civil rights movement in school. We have a long way to go still.
It's time to re-educate ourselves!
Joan Trumpauer Mulholland is a Freedom Rider, a humble woman who participated in over 50 sit-ins and demonstrations by the time she was 23 years old. She was a participant in the Jackson Woolworth’s Sit-in, the March on Washington, the Meredith March and the Selma to Montgomery March.
In today's world, our African American brothers and sisters still face the racism Joan and her friends protested against the Woolworth Counter, though today, it presents itself to them in many varying subtle forms and often times very confrontational, dangerous forms.
Learn how to get started re-educating yourself about civil rights for us all through valuable resources and documentaries from this organization.
Transform lives
through Service
My dear friend Suresh has been fighting poverty and helping orphans in India his entire life. He established Open Ministries in 1999, to focus on saving orphaned children across India.
Open Ministries vision is to support those truly in need, and to separate the "wants" from the true "needs" in the communities across India. They work tirelessly for those in need in remote villages and hamlets, utilizing those in the villages as important mentors and supporters in the lives of the children.
Open Ministries is very grateful for their committed teams and dedicated field workers who help out in their children's homes, free schools, centers that care for the aged, community health programs, adult education programs, development projects, and relief work in service to India.

A Paycheck Away
I came across Facing Homelessness in 2012 when I turned my focus to supporting those in need. The homeless crisis in Seattle since then has grown to epic proportions and daily, we are inundated with the issue visually, as it is right in front of our face.
In today's Seattle, cost of living, rents, home ownership, the ability to simply provide for one's family is in crisis. Many of us are simply one paycheck away from losing everything.
But should that happen, it should not dehumanize us.
Rex Hohlbein founded Facing Homelessness in 2010, with a belief that there is power in humanizing homelessness in that it allows all of us to see the beauty of each person living on our streets, rather than fixating on the complexity of an issue that overwhelms us. He believes that they can and will end homelessness when they invite community to be a part of the solution.

If we work together, we can be a part of a permanent solution so Seattle's homeless crisis.
